How many times have you seen Christians request prayer for deliverance, get delivered, and then be back for prayer a week or two later for the same thing? Why is this? Why can’t they stay free? The answer is simple.
Because lasting freedom does NOT come from ministry, it comes from abiding in truth.
John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
To know the truth, we must abide in the truth. This is the mark of a true disciple. To know Jesus, we must abide in His Word. Abide means to live in and remain there.
Jesus said He is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”(Jn 14:6) In John 1 it says that He is the Word. Truth is what makes us free. Truth cleans us, gives life, purges, strengthens, illuminates, renews our minds, and causes us to grow spiritually. Most importantly, it helps us to know Jesus, the person of Truth intimately.
The danger of “Deliverance Ministry.”
Matthew 12: 43-45 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
We don’t do Christians any favors by delivering them from demons if they are not abiding in the word of God. Deliverance without a constant exposure to, and intake of truth will cause the person to be more bound and demonized than before their deliverance. We must exhort them and encourage them to read and listen to the word for themselves. Not listening to people preach and teach, but consuming the word of God for themselves. There must be an ever-increasing love for the truth in the Christian life.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
Newborns cry out for milk 8 to 10 times a day. How is your spiritual hunger? Do you feel the need to feed on God’s Word 8 to 10 times a day?
Spiritual Hunger comes from feeding, not starving.
Being too quick to cast out a devil can do more harm than good. Not only can the person be more demonized than they originally were, but they become dependent on ministers instead of committed to truth. After repeating this cycle a few times, they may become embarrassed or ashamed and stop coming for ministry altogether.
John 8:36 Therefore if the Son (The Word) makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Lasting freedom does not come from ministry, it comes from abiding in, and knowing the Truth. Read your Bible. Encourage others to do so. Be the light of the world flooding yourself with truth and pointing people to His glorious truth.
