Overcoming Your Past

1 Corinthians 3:18-23 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours: 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come—all are yours. 23 And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.

Are all things really ours? The world? Life and death? Things present and things to come? Notice Paul doesn’t mention the past. The past has been paid for in full. IT IS NOT OURS. Look what he said in Philippians.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Consider Lot’s wife who looked back at Sodom after the angel of the Lord warned her not to, and she turned into a pillar of salt.

The children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years and died there because they complained about where they were and kept looking back to Egypt. They never reached their goal of entering the Promised Land because God was displeased with them and refused to let them enter into their promise. He let them die in the wilderness with their unbelief.

Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

The Kingdom of God is our Promised Land. Could it be that one of the reasons we don’t see more kingdom demonstrations in our Church gatherings is Christians putting their hands to the plow and looking back?

The Kingdom of God is within us. If the Holy Spirit is not finding His full expression in and through our lives we are likely looking back, holding on to parts of our old lives and carnal nature making us unfit for the Kingdom of God that He has planted in our own hearts?

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Notice that Paul does not mention the past again in this passage. Because looking back to the past can separate us from believing in and receiving the love of God. Not His boundless love toward us, but our ability to believe in it and receive it.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Ephesians 4:22-24 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

If we insist on living in, dwelling on, and bringing up the past, we will never embrace the fullness of God’s amazing grace provided for us by Jesus’ sacrifice.

Only when we die to our past can we truly embrace the Kingdom of God and allow our glorious future to unfold.

Catholicism the Pharisees Great Deception.

Everyone wants to post their opinions on the Bible, yet few have actually read it. It’s an indictment against the Church of how little we value and respect God’s written word.

For those who read the Bible and endeavor to learn and follow Christ’s teachings, it becomes glaringly obvious to even the casual reader that Catholicism is a carryover of the religious sect of the Pharisees. The very same people who resisted and rejected Christ’s teachings and eventually killed Him.

Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

The Pharisee’s practices and traditions control people and render the Church powerless and ineffective. We have one high priest and mediator between God and man, the man Jesus Christ. (1 Timothy 2:5-6) The Bible says that in Christ, we are all made kings and priests unto our God. (Revelation 1:6) We can now personally have an intimate relationship with Him. We don’t need a priest, a pope, or even a pastor to come to Christ for ANY reason. We are to Come to the throne of God for ourselves.

Hebrews 4:14-16  Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Praying to Mary and other dead Saints is heresy and can be found NOWHERE in the New Testament. If you cannot find your religious practice in the Bible, it should not be in your life. Mary would be appalled at this practice. So would the twelve apostles. Going to a priest to mediate between you and God defeats the purpose of why Christ came and is a clear influence of the sect of Pharisees. Catholicism is a doctrine of Old Testament religious leaders who wanted to maintain control over the Church. They do not follow the teachings of Christ.

I’m not saying that all Catholics are lost. Only God knows the hearts of men. Some may sincerely love God and desire to follow Him, but the stumbling block of Catholicism hinders them.

Love, according to John 14, is expressed through obedience to His word. Catholics do not follow New Testament doctrine. Catholicism is a doctrine of the Pharisees who do not follow the teachings of Christ and pervert the gospel to serve religious tradition to maintain control and unwittingly promote demonic influence.

If you can’t defend your position, your doctrine, or your denomination with Scripture, please remain silent until you can. It just exposes your lack of understanding and puts you in danger of a more severe judgment.

James 3:1 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

This has stirred me up to pray more earnestly for the body of Christ and that’s a good thing. I will be praying for you all. God bless you.

There are many other denominations with similar ungodly practices that all come from the same lack of reverence and respect for God’s holy written Word.

There are Two Trees in Your Garden.

The Almighty God has planted the incorruptible seed of His Holy Spirit in the heart of every believer. Our heart becomes God’s Garden, and God’s Kingdom.

Luke 17:20-21 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

It is our responsibility to water and nurture the seed He planted and guard the Kingdom in our hearts.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

To guard our hearts is to guard God’s Kingdom. Our responsibility is much like Adam’s in the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 2:15-17 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Within every believer, the Holy Spirit is the Tree of Life. Our FREE WILL’s ability to choose our carnal nature is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. and our ability to choose our carnal nature is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Receiving God’s Implanted Word

Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. 19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

What does implanted, or engrafted mean? The Greek word is “emphutos” pronounced “em’-foo-tos” and this word is only used once in the New Testament. If you are familiar with a surgical implant, you know what implanted means. The same goes for a skin graft or a plant with a grafted branch. These examples give you an idea of what implanted means.

An implant takes living tissue and grafts it into another living tissue to make both one. If grafted properly, the thing being grafted becomes a living part of the thing it is grafted into.

Spiritually speaking, the living word of God is fastened into our born-again, living spirit. This continues until the living word becomes a part of us. Then, we become one. To receive the implanted word, we must be doers of the word. If we are not a doer of the word, we have not received it, we have only heard it.

The self-deception that James is talking about in the above verse is hearing the word and thinking we know it. We don’t know it until we practice what we have heard. We don’t fully understand it. Yet, we move forward thinking we have learned something. We have not.

Until we put the word into practice, we don’t know it, neither do we understand it as we should.

Consider this. A person may have read every available bit of information on brain surgery. Does that make them a brain surgeon? They might have memorized all the facts, but it doesn’t qualify them as a brain surgeon. A brain surgeon must practice their trade first. They do this under the supervision of skilled professionals. These professionals have tons of real-world experience. This practice is to prove they really know their stuff.

Those who hear the word and don’t act on it, don’t truly know it. They have not received the implanted word that is able to save their souls.

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Faith without works is a dead faith, not a living faith, not a faith that has any substance or value. Don’t deceive yourselves, act on the word you hear so it will be implanted in your heart and produce fruit in your life.
