Your Heart? God’s Kingdom!

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

What does this verse mean? How does it tie into having our needs met? What, and where is this kingdom? What are we seeking?

Luke 17:20-21 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

Jesus is telling us that if we pay attention to His kingdom inside us, putting that kingdom before anything else in our lives, and seeking His righteousness, all our needs will be met.

The kingdom within us is a garden. In fact, the Garden of Eden is a type of the kingdom of God in our hearts. Just like Adam, this garden is our stewardship. We don’t own the garden; however, we are responsible for it.

God created space inside us to house His presence. We are now the temple of God. If we look at the Old Testament temple, we see that God is very particular about where He dwells. He will not inhabit a vessel that is not sanctified. This is why He sent the Holy Spirit to help us, comfort us, and guide us into the sanctified life.

There are still two trees in the garden; The Holy Spirit, and our free will.

Ask yourself, am I keeping the garden watered, fed, and protected? Is the garden growing and expanding? Are there things growing in my garden that need to be plucked up?

In addition to the Holy Spirit, God gave us the tools and the manual needed for tending the Garden, His Holy written word. The health of God’s garden is dependent on the water and nourishment received by God’s word, and our obedience to His word.

John 14:23-24 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”

23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

How can we keep God’s word if we don’t know God’s word? According to verse 24 above, if we don’t keep His word, we don’t love Him. Let that sink in.
