Praying God’s word is tremendously powerful. It establishes us in truth and builds our faith. It moves us forward in our spiritual growth. God’s written word contains the building blocks of our faith. In essence, it is the mortar that holds it all together. It solidifies our identity in Him. It raises us up into a holy and righteous temple, a fit dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. Praying God’s word should be a priority in every Christians life, unfortunately, for most, it is not.
Praying the word should not be a mindless recitation of scripture, but an intimate part of our relationship with God. When approached properly, it will enhance our relationship with our Father and enrich our prayer life beyond measure. God’s word should be approached with reverence. It should be lifted up to Him as an offering. This act is a statement of faith. It lets God know that we agree with what He says about us. We hold this faith no matter the situation or circumstance. Embracing this kind of prayer aligns us with God’s thoughts, sets our heart in agreement with His plans, and affirms our identity as His children.
Isaiah 55:11 pray this: “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
Returning God’s word to Him, acknowledging our agreement with His will, and inviting Him to bring His word to pass in our life activates angels that hearken to the spoken word and puts them to work to bring God’s word to pass. (Psalm 103:20) If we could only see what happens in the spirit realm when we pray God’s word in faith, we would never go another day without doing it.
The following are some examples of how I pray God’s word. They are scriptures that speak to my heart. Passages that the Holy Spirit has illuminated to me as being important in my life. The scriptures have been personalized for a prayer of declaration and agreement with the Father. Be mindful of scriptures that jump out to you, that have an unction on them, and personalize your own prayers.
We must all find ourselves in the context of the written word. To do this, we must avoid the tendency to “cherry-pick” God’s word, focusing only on the blessings and ignoring the parts of God’s word that challenge us and demand change.
I encourage you to commit to reading the Word for yourself daily, with emphasis on the New Testament. It is my hope that these personal prayers will help you on your journey to intimacy with our glorious creator. Be blessed.
The Prayer of Declaration and Agreement
Heavenly Father, may these words, this prayer, and the meditation of my heart be accepted in your sight and honor your great name.
Job 22:28 Lord, when I declare your word, I set myself in complete agreement with you. The truth of your word is established unto me; it becomes a part of me, shaping me, changing me, defining me. It causes light to shine on my way, making my vision, my hope, and my path crystal clear.
Joshua 1:8, John 1:14 Father, your word will not depart from my mouth, but I will meditate on it day and night, that I may observe to do according to all that is written in it. When I speak your word and meditate on your word, Lord, I become your word. Your word becomes flesh in my life. I will then make my way prosperous, and I will have good success.
Mark 11:23, Proverbs 18:20-21. Because of the authority that Jesus gave me, I speak to things and situations, and they obey me. I believe in my heart that the things I say will be done. My words have tremendous power, and I use that power to change situations, to help people, to defeat the enemy, to strengthen and establish my hope, and to give You glory, Father. Thank you for giving me the authority to speak on Your behalf. I use this authority in the fear and reverence of Your great name.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8, Romans 5:5 Father, because your love has been poured out into my heart, I am patient and kind. I do not envy or boast and I am not proud. I do not dishonor others, I am not self-seeking, I am not easily angered, and I keep no record of a suffered wrong. I do not take pleasure in evil, but I rejoice in your truth. I believe the best of every person. I see them for their created value. I see them for their potential. I always protect, I always trust, I always hope and persevere. I never fail, I never give up, and I never stop loving.
Mark 12:30-31 I love you, Lord, with all of my heart, with all of my soul, all of my mind and all of my strength, and I love my neighbor as myself.
Galatians 5:16-18, Galatians 2:16, 1 Corinthians 15:56-57 I walk in the Spirit, and I do not fulfill the lust of the flesh. I am led by the Holy Spirit, and I am not under the righteous requirements of the law.
1 Peter 1: 13-21, Ephesians 6:14 I gird up the loins of my mind with your word, Father. I put on truth like a piece of armor. I am sober, and my hope rests fully upon the grace that is mine in Christ Jesus. I am an obedient child, Father. I am not conformed to my former lusts or my former way of life. I am holy in my conduct as you are holy. I walk in the fear of the Lord.
John 16:13, Colossians 1:9 The Spirit of truth abides in me, guiding me into all truth and showing me things to come. I have perfect knowledge of what to do in every situation, and I am filled with all wisdom, discernment, spiritual understanding, and the knowledge of your will for me, Lord.

Philippians 4:6-9 I refuse to worry or get anxious over anything, but in everything through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving I make my requests known to you, Father, and your peace that surpasses all understanding keeps and guards my heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Lord, I think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. If there is any virtue or praise, I think about these things. I guard my mind against doubt and all negative and faithless thoughts. I am a doer of Your word, Lord, and Your peace is with me.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Proverbs 4:23 Father, I live and walk in a physical body, but I do not wage war according to the flesh. The weapons of my warfare are not physical, not carnal, but they are mighty in You for the pulling down of strongholds. Therefore, I cast down every argument and every imagination of the heart that would exalt itself against the knowledge of You and Your word. I take every thought captive and bring them into subjection and Christlike obedience. Psalm 23: LORD, You are my shepherd, and I shall not want. You make me lie down in green pastures, You lead me beside the still waters, and You restore my soul.
