There is no greater way to establish and strengthen our identity in Christ than by consistently reading, speaking, and praying the Word of God. In a powerful encounter I had with the Lord in 1996, He described this practice to me as “Applying Truth Pressure.” That encounter became the foundation of this ministry and changed my life.
Applying Truth Pressure is the deliberate practice of speaking and praying God’s Word over our lives so that our spirits are nourished, our minds are renewed, our tongues are disciplined, and our steps are aligned with God’s perfect will and plan for our lives.
As James 3:5–6 reminds us, though the tongue is small, it carries tremendous power. It can either build up or destroy, bring life or death, direct our lives toward God, or set our lives on a path to destruction.
Maybe you have noticed that your tongue did not get born-again when your spirit did. In fact, the tongue has a carnal nature that will not change this side of Heaven. We must bridle our tongue and force it to be our servant. Applying Truth Pressure forces our tongues to serve God’s purposes rather than our own flesh, making the tongue an instrument of life, truth, and victory rather than a “world of iniquity,” as James 3:6 says.
Over the years, I have taken scriptures that deeply ministered to me and rewritten them as personal prayers and declarations. I encourage you to do the same with the verses that speak strongly to your heart. Until then, I invite you to use this personal devotion that I regularly speak and pray over my own life. I believe it will strengthen and encourage you—and if you faithfully put it into practice, it can truly transform your life.
Lord, according to Romans 4:17, You said to Abraham, “I have made you a father of many nations.” Lord, You give life to the dead, and You call those things which do not exist as though they did exist. You also said to imitate you as dear children (Ephesians 5:1). May these words, prayers, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight. (Psalm 19:14)
