1 Corinthians 2:16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Notice it says, “we” have the mind of Christ, not “you” or “I”.
The mind of Christ is a very simple concept. It can be summed up in 6 words spoken by Jesus Himself: “I can do nothing of myself.” This does not just mean that we can do nothing without the Father. It also means that we can do nothing without our brothers and sisters in Christ. After all, they are His body as well. Whoever heard of one body part doing anything on its own, independent of the rest of the body? We need others to help us accomplish all God has planned and proposed for our lives.
God has designed us to live in a community. Partnering with His work will require a whole village. Assembling together forces us to be relational, and relationships with other believers is one way we connect with the Father. A single body part cannot live and function independently apart from the rest of the body.
Even Jesus needed John the Baptist to go before Him to prepare people for His coming. He needed the disciples to help Him with His earthly ministry while He was alive and to continue His ministry after His death and resurrection.
There is nothing more connected or co-dependent on planet Earth than the body of Christ. We are more connected than the molecules that make up the human body. Maybe this is why He used man’s body to explain how the body of Christ works.
John 15:4-8 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
This is a beautiful reminder that our strength, purpose, and ability to thrive come from staying connected to our source.
Effective ministry and balanced spiritual growth require us to have the mind of Christ. Understanding that we can do nothing of ourselves puts us all on a level playing field concerning our faith, from the faithful saint who has served God for decades to the newborn babe in Christ. We can all engage in community and bring our contribution while gleaning from the collective supply of others.
