The Church has made Jesus an Invalid

As I was praying one day on my way to work, I was overcome with a deep sense of gratitude. I began to thank God for different things that would come up in my heart, things I would never typically think about. After a few minutes of this, I uttered these words by the Spirit, “I thank you, Father, for the body of Christ that validates You to the world.”

As soon as I made that statement, I saw a vision of a dark-skinned fellow of middle age, dressed in a white robe, sitting in a wheelchair with his head bowed down. He was facing almost directly to my right, and I could only see his profile. He was crippled in his arms and legs. As I stared at him, wondering what this meant, the word “INVALID” appeared above his head in all capital letters.

My grandmother was a nurse, and I had heard her use that word many times about my aunt Alice, her daughter, who was stricken with polio. Alice could do almost nothing herself. She had little use of her arms and legs and needed full-time care. She died at the age of 10.

As I continued to watch, the word changed from “INVALID” to “NOT VALID.” At that moment, the man looked up at me, and I saw that it was Jesus! The expression on His face was one of profound sadness. As soon as I realized who it was, the vision ended. The whole thing only lasted about 15 seconds. My heart went from overflowing with gratitude to being grief-stricken in a moment. The Lord gave me an instant understanding of what I had just seen.

The Church has done a poor job of validating Jesus Christ to the world. We are His body; we are his hands and feet; we are the ones called to demonstrate His kingdom to the world. Through this brief vision, He was showing me the current condition of the Church.

His body is weak and crippled because of the poison we have been feeding it—the poison of false doctrines of men and doctrines of devils. We have left our first love and not represented Christ well. From the worlds point of view, Christ is becoming increasingly invalid. I cried profusely.

We have seen a few men and women throughout history who have given themselves in complete surrender to Christ. These individuals demonstrated the kingdom of God like Jesus did. They moved in authority with signs and wonders, operating in the supernatural power of God, but these individuals have been very few.

Only a small part of Christ’s body is functioning properly. Most Christians sit their backsides in the pews once or twice a week, unequipped and unwilling to do the work of the ministry. Jesus remains in that wheelchair, waiting for His Children to arise and validate Him and His message to a lost and dying world.

Maybe God showed me this to remind us that it is still possible, to encourage us to go deeper, to pursue Him more aggressively. This level of complete surrender must become the norm for the end-time Church. We must develop a culture that reproduces completely surrendered disciples. This is the key to validating Christ to the world.

John 14:12-14 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

I don’t think anyone can argue against the fact that the Church has not lived up to these powerful words Jesus spoke. Not even close. And yet He said to them “nonetheless,” which means they will be fulfilled. Glory to God!

The end-time Church must lead with demonstration and power, not just eloquent teachings and entertainment-focused ministry. Signs and wonders must be present to maintain influence over people who are being persecuted for their faith. Demonstrating kingdom power and authority will be needed to give people hope and keep them moving forward and pursuing God during the greatest tribulation the world has ever known.

There are inherent dangers that come with God’s power and authority. This is why we don’t see it much in Church today. God loves us too much to trust His power to irresponsible babes. We must be mature enough spiritually to maintain a servant’s perspective while operating in His divine power. If we don’t, we will likely fall into pride and spiritual abuse, thinking more highly of ourselves than we should, destroying ourselves, our witness, and forfeiting any rewards we may have in eternity. Not to mention the damage we can do to our brothers and sisters.

Matthew 20:25-28 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

We must all change, but it must start with leaders.

The best leaders in any capacity are, without fail, the best of servants to those they are leading. When we hear the word “servant,” we tend to think of a slave, a hired hand, or someone in the “helps” ministry. In the case of leadership, this takes on a much higher and nobler meaning. A servant leader is devoted to meeting the needs of those he is leading so that they are better equipped to fulfill their roles and grow as leaders themselves. He serves others with the hope of them finding and fulfilling their God-given purpose and destiny. He inspires others to lay down their life completely while modeling the process.

“If we are not willing to serve others, we are not qualified to lead them.”

I believe that God is stirring the Church and changing its culture to better represent our Lord Jesus Christ to the world. As Jude said, “We need to contend for the faith that was once delivered to the Church.”

Jude 3-4 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Discernment Ministry? I don’t think so.

Correcting false doctrine within the Church can only be done by individuals who are walking in complete submission to God. If you are not walking in the fullness of God with the fruit of the Kingdom of God evident in your life, you are not qualified to judge and correct anyone. Even then, you are not qualified to correct others by speaking against them, their practices, and their ministries. You can only correct them by your example.

People will follow a Godly example, not a finger-pointing Bible-basher that is full of sin and thinks their ministry is to point out the perceived faults of others.

I find it interesting that people who engage in this type of practice call what they do a “Discernment Ministry.” For the life of me, I haven’t seen any discernment from them yet.

The fact is, much of what they point out is right, but you can be right and miss righteousness by a country mile. Unrighteous judgment is wrong even if the facts are right.

One of the reasons you are not qualified to correct others is your denominational background.

People correcting others from their denominational position and their denominational theology are disqualified from correcting others because denominationalism is a sin to begin with according to 1 Corinthians chapters one and three.

1 Corinthians 1:10-13 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

This is the same thing as saying, “I am a Pentecostal, I am a Methodist, or I am a Baptist. This type of division was corrected strongly by the Holy Spirit speaking through the apostle Paul. He goes on to explain some of the effects of such sectarianism two chapters later.

1 Corinthians 3:1-4 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?

Paul labels this behavior as “envy, and strife that causes division” and is a clear indicator of an immature and carnal Christian “behaving like mere men.” Once a person buys into the lie of any denomination they take a huge step away from the truth of the gospel.

Any belief birthed out of envy, strife, and division is a twisted perspective that creates blind spots that hinder spiritual growth, spiritual discernment, and the ability to rightly divide truth.

This blatant rebellion against the truth of the gospel was one of the first missteps taken by the Church that led down a road to many false doctrines and doctrines of devils. The damage is far-reaching and has deep roots that will be impossible to correct by anything but living examples.

If you are not walking in the fullness of the Spirit, you have no license to correct anyone’s doctrine. When you find yourself fighting against people because they don’t believe like you do, whether right or wrong, you are the one needing the correction. Take the plank out of your own eye before you try to remove the speck in your brother’s eye.

Matthew 7:1-5 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

We have been given spiritual weapons to fight spiritual battles. Our fight is not against people, it is against devils. It is a fight to develop and maintain a very narrow perspective called FAITH.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled

When your obedience is complete and fulfilled your life will be a walking breathing correction to all you encounter, the saved and unsaved alike. A selfless life full of the love of God and the fruit of the Spirit is all the correction you need to bring.

Satan comes for the Word, not us. He is afraid that our constant exposure to the truth will eventually set us free from his deception and be empowered to wreak havoc on his kingdom.

The enemy’s gradual deception over the last two millennia has been so subtle that the Church hasn’t even noticed. Like a frog slowly being boiled in water, desensitized to the very thing that is killing it, the Church has lost at least three things that protect her from deception. Intimacy with the Father, humility, and a love for truth.

The Church is plagued with so many strongholds of wrong thinking and believing because of itchy ears. She has gravitated to unbiblical teachers instead of reading and studying the Bible for herself.

Let me be clear, I don’t believe that we are dealing with malicious people who have an agenda to deceive others and corrupt the gospel. I think most Christians are sincere in their belief that their beliefs and teachings are right. I know I was.

There is a prescribed way to correct others in your circle of influence. What I am talking about is correcting others you don’t even know. This is not correction, it is gossip, backbiting, and unrighteous judgment.

There is only one way to correct the worldwide Church: by correcting ourselves and walking in submission and obedience to God.

By becoming lovers of truth, we set a powerful example that can inspire change across the broader Church. It is through our unwavering dedication to truth and our personal journey of correction and submission that we can collectively steer the Church back to its foundational truths and break free from the strongholds of deception. Let us strive to be vessels of light, ushering in a revival of authentic faith and a renewed love for the truth of God’s Word.

The Danger of Disunity: Overcoming Strongholds in Faith

A stronghold is defined by a harmful belief system that goes against God’s word and creates a fortified place where the enemy has influence and a place to hide.

This fortified place in our minds allows the enemy to perpetuate disunity and confusion among believers, preventing them from experiencing the fullness of God’s desires for His church. In the early church, as highlighted in 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul strongly corrects the Church to avoid divisions and to be united in their faith and understanding.

Verse 12 could easily read: “Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am a Baptist,” or “I am a Pentecostal,” or “I am Lutheran,” or “I am of Christ.”

Every Christian denomination was birthed out of some disagreement and lack of unity. The very thing that this passage is warning against.

Any time disagreement and disunity give birth to a separate belief system we move farther and farther away from the simplicity of the gospel.

Strongholds develop when erroneous beliefs take root in a community or within an individual’s mind, creating barriers and blind spots that hinder spiritual growth and understanding. These belief systems can arise from misinterpretation of scripture or distortion of biblical truths, fueled by personal agendas, cultural influences, or historical conflicts. Over time, these beliefs become entrenched in our thinking, forming a fortified mental or spiritual structure that resists change and rejects differing perspectives. It causes us to be unteachable in certain areas.

One common way strongholds develop is through repeated exposure to false teachings. When individuals are consistently taught doctrines that deviate from the core message of the gospel, they begin to accept these teachings as truth. This acceptance can lead to a rigid mindset that is resistant to reconsideration or correction.

Another contributing factor is the spiritual pride that arises from clinging to specific interpretations or traditions. People can become so attached to their denominational identities or theological positions that they view them as superior to others. This pride fosters more division and prevents the unity that the apostle Paul urged the early Christians to maintain.

Additionally, strongholds can form through influential leaders who promote their preferred doctrines or practices. Charismatic or authoritative figures can shape the beliefs of their followers, sometimes leading them astray from biblical truth. These leaders’ teachings become a source of authority that supersedes the scriptures, creating a stronghold of wrong belief. This primarily happens when the followers neglect to read and study the Bible for themselves, putting too much trust in leadership to interpret the scriptures for them.

Paul addresses this issue of disunity again a few chapters later.

1 Corinthians 3:1-8 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

Ultimately, strongholds must be dismantled through renewing the mind, as described in Romans 12:2.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

By aligning our thoughts and beliefs with the truth of God’s word, we can break free from the chains of erroneous doctrines and experience the transformative power of the gospel. However, we must be careful of what we are renewing our mind to. It must be the Holy Scriptures alone. Not books and sermons about the Bible. Not our favorite theologians’ beliefs and doctrines. The Bible alone is unleavened bread, sincere milk, and spiritual meat. Our hunger must be for pure truth, not the diluted opinions and interpretation of men.

1 Peter 2:2-3 As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

God is telling us through Peter that we should be desiring His word like newborns crying for milk every few hours. We should never go very long with exposure to, and intake of God’s word. His word alone is sharp enough and precise enough to surgically remove any false doctrine we may have fallen prey to.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Dismantling strongholds of wrong beliefs requires a steadfast commitment to the unadulterated truth of God’s word. By immersing ourselves in the scriptures, allowing them to renew our minds and transform our hearts, we can break free from the chains of false doctrines. It is essential that we prioritize the direct study of the Bible over secondary sources, ensuring that our understanding is rooted in divine revelation rather than human interpretation.

As we grow in our knowledge and application of God’s word, we become equipped to discern truth from error, and to live out our faith with integrity and conviction. The word of God is indeed the sword of the Spirit, sharp and powerful, capable of cutting through deception and leading us into the fullness of His truth and grace. May we continually hunger for His word, allowing it to shape our lives and guide our steps in paths of righteousness.
