Never say ”I’ve Lost my Peace.”

Have you ever heard or used the phrase “I have lost my peace?” I have, and I have used it many times, but recently, the Lord corrected me in prayer about it.

I was feeling a little uncomfortable about a decision I had made, I had that yucky, scratchy, agitated feeling in my Spirit that I recognized from past experiences. I brought it to the Lord and said, Father, I think I made a bad decision here, I have lost my peace about it so what would you have me do?

The first thing He said was “Stop saying “I lost my Peace.” That uneasy feeling you are experiencing is My Peace communicating to with you and guiding you into right decisions, keeping you on the path of life.”

I was shocked because I had been speaking and praying this way for years. I was reminded of John 14.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace isn’t something we can lose if we are a disciple of Christ. Peace is to be our arbitrator in our decision-making process.

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Where I missed it, and why I felt like I had lost my Peace is because I didn’t pray about it beforehand. I didn’t ask the Lord for directions or permission; I simply made the decision on my own and that was a huge mistake. I was stuck with my decision because it involved commitment to other people, so I had to follow through and keep my word. Keeping that commitment took months to fulfill and I was miserable the whole time. There was no grace, no lasting fruit, and seemingly no anointing the whole time I was faithful to my commitment. Boy, did I learn my lesson!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

If we are not our own, then every decision we make must be cleared with the One who owns us. He paid for that right by the precious blood of Christ. I never want to be involved in or committed to anything that God has not called me to and led me to.

On another note, I have found that many decisions we bring before the Lord, He tells us to make the choice because He enjoys walking out those decisions with us in relationship. However, if we don’t ask Him beforehand, we could make a wrong choice that costs us dearly.

We have a wonderful promise in the book of Philippians that teaches us much about maintaining Peace and keeping our purity before the Lord.

Philippians 4:6-9 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

If we practice this one passage of scripture, we will avoid many unnecessary mistakes, avoid bad decisions, and increase God’s involvement and ministering angel’s involvement in our lives.

Immersing ourselves in prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving, we open our hearts and minds to the divine wisdom that surpasses all earthly understanding. As we meditate on what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, we cultivate a life that is not only pleasing to God but also filled with His Spirit. We glorify God when we pray and ask before reacting and making decisions. In doing so, we will experience the fullness of His Peace, presence, and purpose in our lives.

Prepared to walk by Faith.

Ephesians 6:15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

I asked the Lord years ago, “why is peace on our feet?” He then asked me a question. “Why do you put shoes on?” I said, “to protect my feet.” The Lord said, “peace is to protect your walk.”

One of the main things the army teaches you in boot camp is that you must be diligent in protecting your feet. Suppose your feet are not in good shape. In that case, your ability to fight is limited, your mobility is compromised, your effectiveness is limited, and often you require help from other soldiers to transport you and protect you, taking them away from their assignment.

It is much worse in spiritual warfare. When our heart is wounded, hardened, jealous, bitter, resentful, or self-seeking, we become not only prey for the enemy but also a weapon he can use to hurt others. James 3 tells us how serious this is.

James 3:13-17 (ESV) But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

When selfishness, bitterness, and jealousy enter our hearts, they will come out in our words and actions. When that happens, we become a magnet for mayhem, a landing strip for demonic activity. We don’t just open the door to demonic influence; we send out invitations and serve their favorite meals.

Guarding our mouths is a huge part of protecting our hearts. Words have creative or destructive power. Words can minister grace, peace, and life, or they can minister death and invite demonic activity. When we give voice to thoughts that the enemy is whispering in our minds, we take that evil seed and plant it in our hearts while exposing our weakness to the enemy.

The entire Bible is replete with passages warning us and encouraging us about the power of our words.

Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Whatever we give ourselves to talk about, we will eat the fruit of.

A disciplined approach to reading and studying the Bible is how we fill our hearts and minds with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Without daily exposure and intake of God’s word, we have little protection from Satan’s subtle deceptions.

The Power Of Stillness

 StillnessGod-Speaks.png

One of the hardest things we will ever do in our prayer life is …NOTHING! Ok, nothing isn’t quite the word we are looking for. Silent Waiting is a better way to say it.

Waiting in silence, expecting God to reveal Himself to us, is a powerful and fruitful endeavor. Quietly meditating on who He is and what He has spoken to us in His word or by His Spirit is an amazing exercise of our faith and is very pleasing to our Father.

Psalm 23:2-3 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

The Good Shepherd, by the Holy Spirit, is always trying to lead us to a place of peace and stillness. It is a place of refreshing and restoration. It is a place to find direction and discern the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Stillness-is-power

Waiting on God renews our strength.

The practice of silent meditation upon God and His word fills up our spiritual gas tanks and empowers us to run well.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

It is in the Stillness that God is known. Reading God’s word and listening to preaching and teaching helps us to know about God, but spending time in His presence is what we need to actually know Him intimately. God is raising up a people in this generation that will live life from the outflow of His presence, rather than merely living by the principles in His word.

“In our stillness before Him, He prepares us to host His presence.”

Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. Psalm 62:5-6 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.

“Silently waiting on God anchors our soul.”

When life throws us a curve ball, when things get tough and it seems like we are pressed on every side with problems, difficulties and even attacks of the enemy. Silently waiting on God and thinking about His goodness, His greatness, His faithfulness and His amazing love for us gives us strength to stand in faith and trust in His tender mercies and his power to deliver us out of all our troubles.

Isaiah 30:15 For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not,

Quietness and stillness should be practiced individually and corporately to keep us from trusting in the world and its systems. The Lord is speaking through Isaiah a strong word of correction to His people for trusting in Egypt for their strength and salvation instead of Him. Unfortunately, they would not have it.

In this age of distractions and constant movement it is vitally important that we practice stillness in God’s presence.

“Peace is the frequency of God. Being still before the Lord tunes us in to this frequency to hear the still small voice of the Spirit.”
